POSTPONED TOKYO OLYMPIC GAMES
Japan has proposed a one-year postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told reporters that he had submitted this compromise to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, who "agreed to 100% ".
The decision was officially approved by the IOC, which had never had to postpone the competition since the two world wars of the 20th century. If the consequences are difficult for Japan, which has been preparing to host these games for several years, the pressure from athletes, then from national and international sports federations, has turned the situation upside down.
The next Olympics, which will still be called Tokyo 2020, will be "testimony to the defeat of the virus" in the face of humanity, said Shinzo Abe.
