Coronavirus Crisis Emerges Dissension Within Chinese Power

Voices were raised to criticize Xi Jinping's decisions against the Covid-19, revealing divisions in the political apparatus.

China is reopening the city of Wuhan (Hubei), which was the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic and deploying its "mask diplomacy" all over the planet. Several elements show, however, that the health, diplomatic and economic crisis remains severe enough in China to cause political tension there. On Wednesday April 8, President Xi Jinping, who chaired a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, collective of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), has refrained from any triumphalism. On the contrary, the secretary general of the party warned against "the external environment", the "growing difficulties of the economy" and "the gaps" in the detection of new patients affected by the virus. US criticism of China's concealment of the severity of the crisis, controversies in the Netherlands and Spain over the quality of medical equipment supplied by Beijing, and tensions with Moscow over new cases of contamination in the north -East China, on the border between the two countries, put Beijing on the defensive. Especially since internally the tensions are latent.
