The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 244 lives in Spain in the past 24 hours, against 185 victims identified Tuesday, according to the latest assessment given Wednesday by the Ministry of Health. The total death toll now stands at 25,857 deaths since the onset of the virus, against 25,613 deaths recorded until Tuesday, according to data from the ministry.
The number of cases confirmed by the coronavirus screening test, known as PCR, reached 220,325, an increase of 685 in 24 hours. Out of the total number of confirmed cases, 2,516 people were cured within 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 126,002.
Spain entered its second month of confinement, scheduled for April 14, inclusive, on April 14.
A slight relaxation of the strict confinement decreed in the country has been adopted, allowing children under 14 to go out, accompanied by an adult and for an hour maximum, since April 26.
Those over the age of 14, like adults, have also been allowed out for an hour since May 2 for exercise or walking with members of the same household. The government launched its "phased" four-phase deconfinement plan on Monday, which will run until the end of June, based on the development of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
The Spanish government adopted the decree the previous day relating to the extension, for the fourth time, of the state of alert for another fifteen days, that is to say until May 24, in order to strengthen the fight against the pandemic of new coronavirus ( Covid-19).
This measure is submitted this Wednesday to the Congress of Deputies (Lower House of Parliament) for approval.
