Coronavirus in Belgium: the number of contaminations is stagnating

If the number of new contaminations seems to stagnate in recent days in Belgium, that of hospitalizations and deaths recorded daily continues to decrease slightly.

On average, 85.1 new Covid-19 contaminations were identified daily between June 28 and July 4, according to the latest statistics released Wednesday by the Sciensano Institute of Public Health. This figure stagnates from the previous seven-day average of 84.9.

To date, 62,123 contaminations have been officially detected in Belgium. More than half of the cases (56%) were identified in Flanders, a third (32%) in Wallonia and 10% in Brussels.

Between June 28 and July 4, 596 new cases were diagnosed, an average of 85.1 per day, stable compared to the previous period.

Since the start of the epidemic in Belgium, 9,776 people have died from the new coronavirus, half of them in Flanders, 35% in Wallonia and 15% in Brussels. Nearly four deaths from coronavirus still occur on average per day.

During the period from July 1 to 7, 73 patients, whose laboratory confirmed Covid-19 contamination, were hospitalized and 117 people left the hospital.

On July 7, 178 hospital beds, including 32 in the intensive care unit, were occupied by patients whose contamination with Covid-19 was confirmed in the laboratory. 15 patients required respiratory assistance and two patients used oxygenation by extracorporeal membrane. In the past seven days, the total number of occupied hospital beds has decreased by 44, including five fewer intensive care beds.
