The United States has officially confirmed its withdrawal from the World Health Organization, which will become effective on July 6, 2021. This American disengagement from this United Nations agency follows the repeated accusations of Donald Trump, who has been accusing him since the month of April to WHO for knowingly concealing the magnitude of the Covid-19 epidemic and for having been exploited by China. After Unesco in 2017 and the Human Rights Council in 2018, WHO becomes the third United Nations agency from which the American president has withdrawn his country.

The American departure deprives it of its biggest individual contributor. The United States contributed more than $ 400 million (360 million euros) to the organization in 2019, about 15% of its total budget. As usual, Trump's decision has raised a lot of criticism. First, on the advisability of withdrawing from an international organization at a time when a pandemic of unprecedented magnitude requires international coordination. Then on the loss of influence represented for the United States, while the WHO is involved in efforts for the development of a vaccine and clinical trials against Covid-19.
