The lawsuit documents include what indicates Hifter, who maintains American citizenship, and his family bought $ 8 million in Virginia between 2014 and 2017.

Sources then reported to Al-Jazeera that Haftar's lawyer was absent from the first session, which dealt with procedural issues, while the two families are seeking compensation amounting to $ 85 million from Haftar and his two sons, Khaled and Saddam.
Last February, Libyan citizens filed a lawsuit before the federal courts in Washington against Haftar and the UAE state supporting him on charges of committing serious war crimes against their relatives, and involvement in widespread human rights violations.
On June 4, forces of the internationally recognized National Accord government managed to liberate all areas controlled by Haftar's forces in the areas surrounding Tripoli.
