Green light for Canada and three Maghreb countries, red light for the United States and Turkey: Europe reopens its borders on Wednesday to travelers from fifteen countries, including China under conditions.
The list of countries, based mainly on epidemiological criteria, was adopted on Tuesday after a qualified majority vote in EU countries after difficult negotiations, as the summer tourist season begins. Travelers from Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay will be admitted to the EU and the Schengen area.
The list, which is intended to be revised every two weeks, also includes China, but only on condition that it admits visitors from the EU to its soil, which is currently only the case very limited. On the other hand, the United States, the country most affected by the pandemic with 125,928 deaths for nearly 2.6 million cases, is excluded from this list, Brazil, Russia, India, Turkey and Israel in particular. .
